Windows XP many a times makes long time to shut down...or it shows some hangup in the shut
down process.This delay can be optimized for a fast shut down, if you need it.
The following registry change can make it:
Warning!:Use this trick on your own risk..
1.In run command type REGEDIT
now u get the registry editor window
2.Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER
3.To make changes, navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
4.Change the following String values:
AutoEndTasks=1
HungAppTimeout=4000
WaitToKillAppTimeout=4000
WaitToKillServiceTimeout=4000
5.Close the editor window and try shutting down
